Interview With Paint It Redskins
October 15th, 2009 | by Ryan Jones |The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Washington Sunday to take on the Redskins and to get the low down on the ‘Skins I sat down with Ryan John. Ryan is the Redskins Fanball correspondent and gives you everything you need to know at Paint It Redskins.
Ryan Jones: Back in 2003, Clinton Portis had one of the best possible games against the Chiefs (218 yards and 5 touchdowns) that a player can put together. He has yet to put together a 100 yard game and only last week scored his first touchdown. Obviously it’s not 2003, but can Portis still get the job done?
Ryan John/Paint It Redskins: Well Portis has become a different back since coming to Washington. Joe Gibbs’ system basically turned him from a scatback into a powerback, though he remained similar in run style. Also since Portis has been in DC, he has had typical slow starts and turning things up several notches as the season progresses. However, this current offensive line I cannot give an accurate barometer on how he will do. History shows that he pulls it together and become the all-time rushing leader in DC this season, but history can’t block for him.
RJ: With Chris Samuels out at left tackle and the rest of the line shuffling around, how comfortable are you with the Redskins protection this week?
PIR: Not very, I expect Campbell to be flushed early and often. The putrid Bucs did that to us, and I expect the same from the Chiefs. Stephan Heyer will be moving into Samuel’s spot and Mike Williams will go over to the right side. Ouch!
RJ: John Riggins publicly blasted Jim Zorn and Joe Theismann has gone on record picking the Chiefs over the Redskins this weekend. Does it matter to fans when former player — especially prominent ones like Theismann and Riggins — don’t publicly support the team?
PIR: Well Riggins is almost always seen bashing this team, even when they were doing well early on last year. I thought it was typical. For Theismann who is a well documented “homer”, that was interesting. Will it have an effect on the team? No, not at all. Snyder has seemed to create an atmosphere that isn’t welcoming to Redskins’ alumni and legends. I think this team needs to be their own team, and not look to the past.
RJ: Just looking at the stats, Jason Campbell seems to be having a solid year. Has he done enough to make you think he is the Redskins long term answer?
PIR: Personally, I feel he is a good QB. Its like giving Tony Stewert the keys to the car and it hasn’t had an oil change. The organization has not supported JC enough to have him succeed. When they needed lineman they drafted WR’s. These WR’s can’t catch a cold and there is no depth on the line. I like the guy alot, but he will probably be a starter for someone else next year.
RJ: What do you think the final score will be Sunday? Player of the game?
PIR: Until the Skins show me something, Chiefs win 14-13, late score. I think our defense will play outstanding, but with lousy clock management and wasting of time outs, Cassel to Bowe for 6 and the extra point seals the deal with 20 seconds left.
Player of the game, Brian Orakpo (WAS-OLB) with 2 Sacks and one forced fumble.
Many thanks to Ryan. Be sure to check out Paint It Redskins for all of your Redskins information!

Here’s to a good and entertaining game this year. We haven’t had a either, other than the late Tampa Bay comeback.
I gave you my score, and that was picked from my head. I’ll be posting what I am picking from my heart and “homer” thoughts later if you want to chime in. Great job on the site!
