Bowe Gets With The Program
August 22nd, 2009 | by Ryan Jones |Three catches.
Thirty seven yards.
One touchdown.
Not exactly eye popping stats. But the most important part of Dwayne Bowe’s performance Friday night in Minnesota had nothing to do with stats. It was the three year veteran finally getting with Todd Haley’s program.
In the second quarter, Quinten Lawrence came around the right end on a reverse and there was Bowe still on his block, helping to spring the rookie for a 16 yard gain.
When Todd Haley talks about needing consistency from a player, he doesn’t just mean when the ball comes their way. “The Bowe Show” has to be on even when he isn’t the one in the spotlight. Against the Vikings he showed he is taking the right steps in that direction.
Don’t get me wrong, Bowe still has work to do.
There were two different occasions where he gave up on poorly thrown balls, the second of which was very close to being intercepted without any challenge from Bowe. You can bet when the team goes over the tape back in Kansas City that Haley is going to spend plenty of time focusing on those two lackluster efforts by his wide receiver.
But make no mistake, Bowe is finally getting with the program.
